The Never ending saga: Michael Bay’s TMNT

It seems like almost everyday we are hit with another story of something that makes TMNT fans mad, and today is again one of those days !

Well yesterday we go word that the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be re-titled to the simpler and shorter Ninja Turtles. Today, we can confirm those reports and Michael Bay once again put out a statement to the angry mob. Here is that statement:

“Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie. This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles. They care VERY MUCH about making this film for the fans. Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance. Jonathan the director, is a major fan of the whole franchise. HE’S NOT GOING TO LET YOU DOWN.

MICHAEL”

This changed also isn’t the most surprising as they already announced that in this incarnation they would not be Mutants.

So TMNT fans, how do you feel about this news? Comment below.

  1. I was a huge fan of TMNT as a kid and I still can throw a quote or two from the movies around when it seems warranted…”Wise man say: Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza.”
I think Bay might be a little misguided by the “success” of his Transformers films. It seems as though he thinks that his version of what people grew up with is the better version. The only real gripe I have is that they’re aliens. When TMNT was first published (it was a comic first) it was a satire of the then popular DareDevil comic. That included the turtles getting splashed with chemicals in the same manner that young Matt Murdock did. I agree that it seems silly, but so does an alien race of ninja turtles. So why not just leave well enough alone?
